Types of Wallpaper
Non-woven Wallpaper
Non-woven wallpaper are particularly easy to process. They consist predominantly of pulp and textile fibers, which are then solidified with a binder. The material can bridge small cracks / hide because they are dimensionally stable and they are mostly flame retardant to DIN 4102 B1.
The fleece fabric can be attached directly to the pasting, the soaking time is not necessary. In bathrooms or kitchens, the non-woven wallpaper is also popularly used because of its resistance to water and steam. It also has the advantage that it is completely dry strippable at a new renovation.
However, only when the substratum is pretreated with a wallpaper primer. Through the wallpaper primer you also obtain a plain background. Light non-woven wallpapers can shine through, even slight differences in color on the surface can be seen.
Paper Wallcovering
Paper wall covering includes all normal wall coverings from wrinkled, embossed and printed paper, wall murals are often made from recycled paper that is printed multicolored. The quality of paper wallpaper is judged according to their gross weight:
- 110g / m2 = slight paper wallpaper
- 110-140g / m 2 = medium paper wallpaper
- 140g / m2 = heavy paper wallpaper
Murals have a soft time of about 3-5 minutes, this time should not be exceeded, as the embossed surface of the wallpaper can get lost. Through its high breathability, moisturecontrol properties and because its environmentally friendly, the paper wallpaper is often processed in children's rooms. In addition, the murals are free of harmful substances. The two-ply paper wallpapers are of high quality and are also called duplex wallpapers.
Textile Wallcoverings
The textile wallpaper has claimed its place across all eras and fashions in interior design. It is among the oldest types of wall decoration. From a composite of thread systems on paper or non-woven textilebacking, the wallpapers are made.
However, the variations are numerous: Felt, small cords, raffia natural or synthetic fibers, but also feathers are processed. It is differentiate between Kettfadentapete wallpaper and fabric wallpaper. In a Kettfadentapete the threads are bonded only in the longitudinal direction with the carrier. A fabric wallpaper consists of crossing or woven threads. They can also be screen printed with motifs.
Natural material Wallpaper
Natural material wallpapers are made from different grown, prepared and post-treated natural materials, from cork, grass to leaves, there are no limits. Therefore, the surface seems always lively. Some of these are still made by hand.
The different growth conditions of the natural material wallpaper and wallpaper for their craftsmanship ensures, that each role and every cut sheet of it is unique. This wallpaper has been very popular in the 80 years.
Plastic wall cladding
Plastic wall coverings are 3-dimensional, of which the surface has been processed with expanded plastic. All wallpaper are based on plastic carriers that is not mounted on a paper support or no support material is needed, belong to the group of plastic paneling.
Paintable wallcovering
Paintable wallcoverings can be made of many different materials such as paper, glass, plastic or textile. You get only by painting their finish.
Here again, the fleece backing is becoming increasingly popular. Throught the easy processing and virtually unlimited design possibilities, it is set to conjunction with structural elements.
Vinyl Wallpaper / Satin Wallpaper
Vinyl wallpaper is very durable and scrubbable. The surface is suitable for tasked walls such as, hallways, stairwells or even kitchens. Dirt can easily be removed with water or with a brush. It not only offers practical advantages. Vinyl wallpaper is available in different textures, colors and patterns, it offers numerous design possibilities.
Fiberglass
Fiberglass wallpaper have many advantages. The glass fabric is waterproof, hygienic and easy to clean. Furthermore, they are available in many interesting structures. Due to their high tensile, cracks can be bridged. Optical fiber is adhesively bonded to a fabricwhich is generally applied on the wall.
After drying, the wall covering can be removed individually, for example, are painted with latex paints, emulsion paints or dispersion paints. Particularly in entrance areas, stairwells, hallways, washrooms, hospitals, doctors' offices, department stores or sitting room, fiber is used because of its durability.
Woodchip Wallpaper
Woodchip is available in three different structures: Fine, medium and coarse. In the structure of wood fibers the firmly are incorporated and are now made of three layers of paper. The woodchip can be painted over several times and must not be replaced at any renovation.
The coarser the structure the more often the woodchip is deleted because the grain size / structure remains visible for longer. The woodchip can be removed dry when the surface is pretreated with a corresponding primer. Today there is the woodchip on a non-woven backing. This variant is becoming more prevalent due because it is easier to work with.
Metallic effect Wallcovering
Almost exclusively metallic wallpapers are made from thin aluminum foil, which is laminated onto fabric or paper. The translucent paint coatings or etching, and oxidizing the surface of optical effects can be achieved.
Metal wallpaper have because of their elaborate processing at a high price, those wallpapers are niche products and are only sold in higher Clientelen.
Mural Wallpaper
Under a mural wallpaper is meant large subjects with photographic illustrations or paintings. Just as the traditional panoramic wallpaper it will be composed of several parts.
Before digital printing murals were produced with a flat-screen printing or photo prints. Digital printing is managed by its flexibility and individual production new freedoms. As a unique real artists and designers their various visions in digital print technology.
Smooth non-woven Wallpaper
Smooth fabric is a smooth wall covering, which is particularly durable, crack-bridging and dimensionally stable. Smooth wallpaper can be painted emulsion paints such as woodchip or fiberglass wallpaper with latex paints. Woodchip is increasingly replaced with smooth fleece.
Due to the unlimited design possibilities, the smooth fleece is becoming increasingly popular.
On the smooth fleece also wall stickers keep better than on a woodchip.
The woodchip has coarse structures and thus dissolve after some time the wall sticker.
For a smooth wallpaper, however, the substrate should have no imperfections.
Irregularities would push through this.
The smooth fleece is omitted as in the non-woven wallpaper soaking time and the bonding technique corresponds to the non-woven wallpaper.
Flock Wallpaper
The pattern of ‘Velourtapeten’ is printed with glue and it is electrostatically flocked with very short natural or synthetic fibers. The needless fibers are canceled, only the fibers remain liable to the printed motifs with glue. With the method, the flakes are almost irremovable. The surface is velvety smooth as well as the versatile pattern give the wallpaper a distinctive touch.
Structure profile wallpaper
According to DIN 4102 B 1 structure profile wallpapers are fire resistant, extra washable and sometimes even scrubbable. The downside is that the foam layer can be easily damaged by a sharp object. The structure profile wallpapers are easy to work with. You need the same substrate preparation and adhesive as Vinly wallpapers. The paste should not be so thick and evenly. As usual, the first track should be folded and rolled up in addition to the Paste 1/3 to 2/3. Here, the soaking time is also about 8-12 minutes. They are stuck like almost all types of wallpaper on impact. Then it is important that the bubbles are rolled out, so that the wallpaper can dry evenly. An advantage of the wallpaper is that it forgives irregularities in the base. The structure profile wallpaper has a foamed surface and thus do not form so quickly.
